Listed below are the simple things that Save Energy. The savings may be in small drops, but let us remember that all the big floods started from small rain drops.
At your home:
- Convince the family members to switch of fans & lights when leaving the room
- Switch of bright lights or use dimmers while watching TV
- Use electronic fan regulators to speed control
- Use fluorescent lamps in place of incandescent lamps
- Don’t overload or underload your Washing machine
- If you are in Florida dry your clothes in sunlight whenever possible
- When you want to Cook or Iron clothes, plan in advance to minimize idle time
- Buy only Energy Star certified appliances
When you drive:
- Proper driving techniques can make a 20% difference in fuel economy
- Before starting or moving your vehicle, make sure that hand brake is released
- It is better to park the car in the farthest space, even you have walk longer
- Fast driving & fuel economy does not go together. Optimum speed is 25 -40 mph
- Do not use Brake, unless it is really necessary
- Choose a proper route to drive especially in peak hours
- A poorly maintained vehicle consumes 15% more fuel for the same travel distance
- Take care of the following: Tire pressure, correct Spark plugs & its timing, Clean Air Filter, Wheel alignment & Brake drag
If you work at an Industry:
- Conduct an energy audit, identify areas of energy savings & prioritize the actions
- Convince staff to stop idling machinery immediately
- Replace old motors & power driven machines after their normal life-span
- Fit maximum demand controllers so that you can monitor consumption
- Create energy cost awareness to all employees, if possible for every plant activity
At your Office:
- Utilize natural light & natural air flow, if available & utilizable
- Replace to digital type thermostat, if your office still uses the old mercury type
- Utilize occupancy sensors for the office cabins & meeting rooms
- Convince staff to be watchful on gas & electricity waste as part of best practices
